Target 9: Soft ‘c’ (‘c’ saying ‘s’)
Rule: ‘c’ followed by ‘a’, ‘o’ or ‘u’ has a hard ‘k’ sound, but when
followed by ‘e’, ‘i’ or ‘y’ it always has a soft ‘s’ sound.

Spell these words:-

Soft ‘c’ at the end of words
face place price trace
chance police pence office
France sentence distance notice
Adding suffixes beginning with ‘a’ or ‘o’ to words that have soft ’c’ and soft ’g’ endings
Rule: To keep the soft ‘c’ or ‘g’ you have to keep the ‘e’.
Look at these examples:
notice + able = noticeable manage + able = manageable
outrage + ous = outrageous courage + ous = courageous
