Target 17: " i before e except after c "

The ‘ee’ sound in some words is spelt ‘ie’, e.g. grief. As you can

see the i is before the e.

But, if the ‘ee’ sound comes after the letter ‘c’, it is spelt ‘ei’.
For these words the i is after the e.

So:-

‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’

field relief brief
thief chief mischief

receive ceiling deceive
achieve receipt relieve
piece grief niece

deceit deceitful deceitfulness

Now complete these words with "ie" or "ei":-

perc _ _ ve shr _ _ k conc _ _ t

Alia rec _ _ ved a p _ _ ce of cake from her n _ _ ce.

Exceptions: These words have ‘ei’ instead of ‘ie’:-
