Can we use more than one adverb?
Yes, look at the examples below.

Slowly and carefully, the man walked out of the room.
The man walked out of the room slowly and carefully.
The man usually walked carefully out of the room.

Do all adverbs end in ‘ly’?
Most adverbs end in ‘–ly’ as we have seen in the examples used so far. However,

there are some adverbs that don’t end in ‘ly’. Below are some examples:

always quite very almost never sometimes once twice

The man always walked out of the room.
The man walked straight out of the room.
The man almost walked out of the room.
The man never walked out of the room.

Sometimes, the man walked out of the room.
The man walked out of the room twice.


NOTE: Some adverbs (such as extremely, very and quite) can be

used with adjectives to make them more powerful.
Look at the example below:


I have a small dog.

I have an extremely small dog!



ADVERB ADJECTIVE



Harry was quite cold after swimming in the river.

It was a very long walk to the shop.
