Part 1: Prepositions
What are prepositions?
A PREPOSITION tells us the POSITION of something.
Here are some examples of prepositions:
in into out outside on off up
down below before beneath beside near through
past under over across among towards between
on top of in front of at the side of next to
As you can see, prepositions can also be made up of more than one word.
Prepositions always come before a noun or pronoun.
Examples:
My boots are under the shelf.
PREPOSITION NOUN
I live next to Mrs Jones.
beside the sea near Spain
on my head
into the water
across the road
among friends over the hill
As well as position in space, prepositions can also tell us about
position in time (when something happened).
Examples:
before after during since until at on in
before dinner after Tuesday during the night
since last year at night until tomorrow in four days
at the same time on my birthday
