TARGET YOUR GRAMMAR!

Understanding how words are put together in a sentence will improve

your writing ... and your grades. This course will guide you through the
rules that create sentences.

Why should you know about grammar?

Imagine you have a box of building bricks to make a model. There are
different types of bricks but you have no instructions. You can try to

glue the bricks together but your finished model may not turn out the
way you expected.

Language is made up of different types of words and these are the
building bricks of a sentence. Grammar rules (instructions) help you

‘glue’ the words together to make sentences. Without these grammar
rules, sentences may not make sense. Grammar is important so that

people can understand each other.

Learning about grammar will:

 improve your writing, reading, speaking and listening skills

 make your sentences and paragraphs clear and easy to
understand

 make your written work more interesting and enjoyable to read
 allow you to speak clearly and tell people exactly what you mean

 give a good impression in formal situations, such as in an
interview or when you are writing to apply for a job
 improve your grades and impress your teachers!

How does the course work?

The course is divided into targets. Each target gives you important

information to help you improve your grammar and has tasks for you
to do which will demonstrate your understanding.

The course is designed so that you can progress through the targets
at a pace that is right for you.
