A. A piece of writing where you have used the past tense correctly. 1 point
B. A piece of writing where you have used the present tense correctly. 1 point
C. A piece of writing where you have used the future tense correctly. 1 point
Teacher’s comment on work samples: NOTE: If you
can’t find an
example of a
tense to use as
evidence, write a
short
paragraph
on any topic using
that tense.
Summary: Verbs and the Tenses
Verbs change their form to show us whether we are
talking about the present, the past or the future
(the tenses).
Rules for present tense: Regular verbs follow the
rule that an ‘s’ is added to the verb when it is used
with he, she or it.
Rules for past tense: Regular verbs just add ‘ed’
for the past tense.
Verbs that don’t obey these rules are called irregular
verbs. Most verbs are only irregular for the past
tense.
Take care not to mix up tenses in your writing.
This is a common mistake people make.
It is a good idea to proofread your work to check
for this. So, for example, if you are writing about
the past, make sure you stay in the past tense.
Target 11 will tell you more about proofreading.
