Target 1: Nouns

NOUNS: Subject and Object

Ok, I have found out what a
noun is, but what does it do in

a sentence?

Nouns are the subjects and
objects of sentences.

HOW CAN WE FIND THE SUBJECT AND OBJECT OF A SENTENCE?

We can find the subject and object by asking three questions.

Question 1: “What is happening?” (What is the ACTION in the sentence?)

Question 2: “Who or what is doing the action?” This is the SUBJECT.

Question 3: “Who or what is it being done to?” This is the OBJECT.

Look at the sentence below:

Gareth cooked dinner.

Question 1: What is happening?
Answer: Something was being cooked.

Question 2: Who was cooking?
Answer: Gareth was cooking, so Gareth is the SUBJECT of the sentence.

Question 3: What was being cooked?
Answer: Dinner was being cooked, so dinner is the OBJECT of the sentence.

Here is another example:

She fell into the river.
